Stan Lee
Stanley Lieber was born on December 28, 1922, in New York City. Growing up, "Stan Lee" had a hard time. His parents had immigrated to the United States for a better life, so starting fresh was hard. Stan Lee's dad tried to open up a restaurant, but the business failed. With only a little bit of money to survive Stan Lee's parents grew stressed. Stan Lee escaped from all of the tension by reading. Once Stan Lee graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1939, Lee had to get a job. His family had no money to pay for a college education so getting a low-paying job was Lee's only alternative. However, Lee was given the opportunity to work for his Uncle in Timely Comics. Lee accepted the job and worked as Joe Simon's assistant in 1940. Even though the job was only eight dollars an hour, Stan Lee felt that he would someday be able to pursue his dream as a writer and create the best comic ever.
At first, Stan Lee was running errands for Simon, but finally was able to write. As a reward for his hard work, Simon let Lee write "text fillers." These stories were small stories inside of comic books that weren't even related to the comic itself. Although Stan Lee's stories didn't really relate to the main comic, he was happy to write them. When Jack Kirby and Joe Simon were fired, Stan Lee was ordered to take their place. Lee soon received his first major assignment. Martin Goodman assigned Lee to create a group of superheroes. It took many attempts, but finally with the help of rehired Jack Kirby, Stan Lee created the Fantastic Four #1 in 1961. Not long after, Lee published Iron Man, Thor, and the Incredible Hulk. Not only was Lee at the top of his game, but he also made comic industry history. Lee was the first editor to create commentary page where he answered fans' questions and gave hints on the next story.
By 1963 Goodman officially made the company name Marvel and Lee was the main employee. Stan Lee soon created the Amazing Spider-man. Soon after Spider-man became a hit Lee created more and more Spider-man stories. After Spider-man Lee went on to create X-Men.
Marvel's rival company, DC Comics, made the big move and brought its superheroes in movies. So, Stan Lee tried his best to get his characters on the big screen as well. It took many tries, but Stan Lee was finally able to get his characters in the movies. In fact, in 2002 Stan Lee produced Spider-Man and earned over $400 million.
Stan Lee is still alive this day and is doing well. Lee still produces movies and will always be the face of both Marvel Comics and Marvel Movies.
