Martin Goodman
Martin Goodman was born in 1908 and started his career in pulp magazines. Goodman paired up with Louis Silberkleit and founded the Western Fiction Publishing around1932. Goodman and Silberkleit busted out pulps here and there. Once a popular topic arose in the public, Goodman and his partner took that idea and turned it into a pulp. Soon, the pulp business slowed down and the comic business arose. Already having a failing business upset the two businessmen, but then they broke out in a fight and went their own ways. Martin Goodman kept the company while Louis Silberkleit set out on his own path.
Trying to survive off of pulps, Goodman was struggling. Luckily around the 1930's, Goodman was given an opportunity to enter the comic business and start off fresh. Frank Torpey and his group of talented writers and artists created the comics and all Goodman had to do was distribute them. The first publication of these comics were on the shelves for ten cents a piece under the name, "Marvel Comics."
Lofe was finally getting on track for Goodman. He even recruited some of his own writers and authors to start his own comic company. Goodman and his men were creating famous superheroes like Sub-Mariner, Human-Torch, etc.
Each and every year, Marvel remained one of the top comic companies ( alongside of DC comics ). Over time Goodman knew his business was strong and decided to retire in the early 1970's leaving the company in the hands of his nephew Stan Lee. Martin Goodman later died in 1992 at the age of 84. Martin Goodman will always be remembered as the founder of Marvel Comics.
